Kulah Kud is the Persian name for helmet or head protection. The Persian model has a half-dome shape with a movable nose protection, and a neck and back of the neck protection, made in chainmail. It also often has a spike at the top and two feather holders, one on each side, in the helm’s frontal area.

This piece dates from the 19th century, and has the characteristically Persian half-dome shape.

Manufactured in wrought iron in one single piece, it is completely covered with a regular pattern of alternating designs, of inlayed gold arabesques on a smooth background, and of chiselled bas-relief flowers.

The neck protection is made of chainmail, and fixed around the entire base of the helm. On the top, there is a square spike, riveted to the helm itself.

The feather holders and the movable nose guard are also riveted to the helm.

The helm still displays its original lining.

Kulah Kud é a designação persa para elmo ou defesa da cabeça. O modelo Persa tem um formato em semi-cúpula, com protecção nasal móvel, e inclui também uma protecção da nuca e pescoço, realizada em malha metálica. Surge frequentemente, com um espigão no topo e com dois porta-plumas colocados, um de cada lado, na zona frontal do elmo.

Este exemplar, datado do século XIX, apresenta a característica forma persa em semi-cúpula.

Construído em ferro batido, numa só peça, exibe toda a superfície do casco ornamentada por um padrão organizado em registos alternados, de arabescos tauxiados a ouro sobre fundo liso, e de flores trabalhadas a cinzel em baixo relevo.

A todo o perímetro da base do elmo está fixa a protecção do pescoço, realizada em malha com trama de anéis de ferro. Na encima, destaca-se um espigão de secção quadrada, fixo ao casco por um sistema de rebites.

Igual sistema de fixação é usado para os dois porta-plumas e passador da protecção nasal, móvel.

O elmo conserva o forro original.
