The Klewang is a kind of sword from the East Indies, an equivalent of the Japanese Katana.

It is characterised for having a single edged straight blade and an angular hilt, usually sculpted and without a guard.

In this piece the scabbard follows the single edged, straight bladed typological characteristics.

The hilt is sculpted in rhinoceros horn with silver mounts.

The scabbard is made of wood.

O Klewang é um tipo de espada das Índias Orientais, equivalente à Katana no Japão. Caracteriza-se por ter uma lâmina recta de um só gume e um punho anguloso, geralmente sem guarda e esculpido.

Neste exemplar a bainha segue as características da tipologia com a lâmina recta de um só gume.

O punho está esculpido em corno de rinoceronte, com montagem em prata.

A bainha é em madeira.
