KATAR KERALA, Dagger

Full Length: 52, 5 cm; Blade Length: 38 cm

This Katar belongs to the family of Hindustani daggers which work as a prolonging of the arm.

Its blade, with a double edge and made of steel, is quite long and shows reinforcement grooves which cover most of its area. A large iron guard for the protection of the hand and the forearm, a characteristic which distinguishes this piece from the other types of Katar, and which is only known in the Kingdom of Kerala (Tanjore) in Southern India.

Este Katar, pertence à família das adagas do Hindustão que formam o prolongamento directo do braço.

A sua lâmina, em aço e de gume duplo, é bastante comprida e apresenta nervuras de reforço que a cobrem na sua maior parte. Grande guarda em ferro para a protecção da mão e do antebraço, característica que diferencia o presente exemplar, dos outros tipos de Katar, e que só é conhecida no Reino de Kerala (Tanjore), na Índia do Sul.
