KATAR, Dagger

Full Length: 35 cm; Blade Length: 18 cm

Dating from the 17th century this Katar is completely made of iron in a single piece.

The double edged blade shows in the whole of its surface a decoration with an unusual continuous pattern made up of geometrical motifs, chiselled in high-relief.

The hilt exhibits vestiges of an engraved decoration, with gold incrustation in the koftgari style, which the use of the blade naturally made disappear.

The wooden scabbard is lined with silk.

There is a similar piece in the Hermitage Museum collection.

Datado do século XVII, este exemplar de Katar, é totalmente realizado em ferro e numa só peça.

A lâmina de duplo gume, exibe, em toda a sua superfície, uma decoração com um invulgar padrão contínuo de motivos geométricos, realizados a cinzel e em alto-relevo.

O punho, mostra vestígios de uma decoração gravada, com incrustação a ouro em trabalho koftgari, que o uso da arma fez naturalmente desaparecer.

A bainha em madeira, está forrada a seda.

Existe um exemplar semelhante na colecção do Museu do Hermitage.
