Steel, gold, brass, velvet

This circular shaped shield, made in steel, has its surface completely covered in a repetitive floral pattern, engraved in bass relief, and inlayed in gold. Over this pattern and at the centre, it displays a serpent forming, with its body, four large knots alternating with four petals as it circles the corresponding number of protuberances of the shield

.

Closer to the edge, it displays an indented decoration of flowers and foliage, in a continuous band, held by rivets. The brass rim displays a relief freeze of saw teeth.

The reverse of the shield preserves in good condition the original lining, in red velvet, along with its respective sustaining chains.

Este escudo de formato circular, executado em aço, exibe a superfície inteiramente preenchida por uma profusão de motivos florais a formar um padrão repetitivo, gravado em profundo baixo relevo, com incrustação a ouro. Sobre este padrão e ao centro, surge aplicada uma serpente a formar com o seu extenso corpo, quatro grandes nós em alternância com quatro pétalas à medida que circunda o número correspondente das protuberâncias do escudo.

Próximo do rebordo, sobressai outra decoração recortada de flores e folhagens, em banda contínua, aplicada com rebites. O rebordo em latão, apresenta um friso relevado de dentes de serra. O reverso do escudo, preserva em bom estado de conservação o forro de origem, em veludo vermelho, assim como as respectivas correias de sustentação.
