BICHAWA, Dagger

Full Length: 23 cm; Blade Length: 12 cm

Indian dagger which may be used in the right or left hand, being this particular piece a left-handed one.

Here the blade is older than the hilt, its manufacture being attributed to the early 16th century. It is made out of steel with the characteristic shape of a scorpion’s sting. Hilt in brass ring decorated with floral motifs.

The Bichawa is a weapon regarded with some misgivings since it was used by Sivaji to assassinate the Shah Azfal Khan in the 10th of November of 1659 in Pratapgad.

Adaga indiana que pode ser usada ou na mão direita ou na mão esquerda, sendo o presente exemplar o de mão esquerda.

Neste, a lâmina é mais antiga do que o punho, sendo atribuída a sua manufactura ao início do século XVI. É de aço, com a forma característica de ferrão de escorpião.

O punho em argola de latão, está decorado com motivos florais.

A Bichawa, é uma arma olhada com alguma desconfiança desde que foi usada por Sivaji para assassinar o Xá Azfal Khan a 10 de Novembro de 1659, em Pratapgad.
