ANKUS, Elephant driving instrument

This Ankus adds to its formal simplicity the richness of the material used both in decoration and in the structuring of some of its elements.

The ensemble made by the blade, hook and handle fitting, has a background fully taken up by a vegetal decoration organised in friezes and indented frames, engraved and incrusted with gold, in koftgari style.

The handle is made of engraved and polychromed ivory. It ends in an iron pommel with a geometric motif decoration engraved and incrusted with gold. Previously from Rainer Daehnhardt’s collection.

Este Ankus alia à sua simplicidade formal, o requinte dos materiais utilizados quer na decoração, quer na estrutura de alguns dos seus elementos.

O conjunto, formado pela lâmina, gancho e encaixe do cabo, possui um fundo totalmente preenchido por uma ornamentação vegetalista, que se organiza em frisos e molduras recortadas, e está realizada a gravado com incrustação a ouro, em trabalho executado na técnica koftgari.

O cabo é de marfim, gravado e policromado. Remata num pomo em ferro com uma decoração de motivos geométricos, gravados e incrustados a ouro.
