KHANJAR, “Tiger Sword” Dagger

Full length: 30,9 cm ; blade length: 18,7cm

This type of Khanjar originates from North India and belongs to the dagger family known as “Tiger Sword”. It is recognizable by its slightly curved double edged blade, usually reinforced in its edges and tip.

In this piece, the blade is forged in watered steel and displays, in its ricasso, a floral ornamentation, chiselled in bass relief.

The hilt, in elephant ivory, displays the three-sectioned tip style which is characteristic of this sort of bladed weapon.

Este tipo de Khanjar é originário do Norte da Índia e pertence à família das adagas conhecidas como "Dente de Tigre". Caracteriza-se por ter uma lâmina ligeiramente curva, de duplo gume, usualmente reforçada na periferia e na ponta.

Neste exemplar, a lâmina é forjada em aço damasquino e exibe no ricasso uma decoração floral, cinzelada em baixo relevo.

O punho, em marfim de elefante, apresenta a extremidade trilobada tão própria deste tipo de arma branca.
